Arm Wrestling Dames Kick Off in Boston in Support of the Elizabeth Stone House
The Elizabeth Stone House was excited to be the first beneficiary of
BAWD, Boston Arm Wrestling Dames!
BAWD, now one of many arm wrestling chapters across the country, made its debut on Saturday, January 21 at
the
Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge. In the event, like others nationwide, woman-identified wrestlers competed tournament-style. The wrestlers entertained, competing in costume with theme songs, biographies, and enthusiasm!
The Stone House is so grateful for all those who competed, donated, cheered and had fun - all to support our work. Thank you, BAWD!
Holidays 2011
The holidays are always an exciting time at the Elizabeth Stone House, and this year proved no different! Elizabeth Stone House residents, community members and staff enjoyed a variety of activities this season. We gathered for our second annual evening of Gingerbread House construction, had a festive night at our holiday party hosted by our friends at Mintz Levin, wrapped presents galore at our "It's a Wrap" party and enjoyed Christmas in the City in Boston.
Not only did we have fun, but our Stone House Elf Committee worked hard to provide holiday gifts for over 850 adults and children this holiday season! We are so proud of this accomplishment and beyond grateful to each and every special donor who made this possible.
31 Nights of Light
On Thursday, December 15, the Elizabeth Stone House proudly lit the Prudential Tower blue as part of 31 Nights of Light. 31 Nights was created by The Shops at Prudential Center to help community organizations gain key visibility during the holiday season through the lights and location of a Boston icon.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Elizabeth Stone House volunteers and supporters helped staff treat our residents, former residents and community members to a special Thanksgiving dinner! Over 120 people enjoyed a delicious meal, courtesy of Community Servings followed by an array of desserts from our Community Friends.

Halloween
The Elizabeth Stone House hosted a special night of Halloween trick-or-treating, goulish games, face-painting and more on October 24. Stone House families and staff got in the Halloween spirit in a variety of wonderful costumes and everyone had their share of candy!
Apple Picking
On Saturday, October 15, Stone House staff, residents and former residents embraced a beautiful fall day with the annual apple picking trip to Shelburne Farm in Stow, Massachusetts. Apples were plentiful and sweet - a combination of golden delicious, macintosh, and macouns. The adults and children not only enjoyed apple picking, but also a hayride, a hay playground and lunch with apple cider and donuts for dessert!
New England Patriots vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Back to football! Thanks to our friends at
ARS Restoration Specialists, many Stone House families attended the preseason opener for the New England Patriots on Thursday, August 11. After tailgating with food and some parking lot football, we cheered the Pats on to a huge 47-12 victory!
On August 8, the Elizabeth Stone House's Network of GentleMen sponsored their annual potluck dinner for Stone House families. With a fun, summer BBQ, the GentleMen provided all the delicious food and gave families a night off from kitchen chores.
Wilderness Heals
Nearly 50 women participated in this year's Wilderness Heals pledge hike to benefit the Elizabeth Stone House. For the first time in the hike's history, the Stone House and hikers raised over $100,000 before the start of the three-day White Mountain hike!
Painters for a Purpose is a group of South Shore artists who donate 30% of their sales from each exhibit to a local charity. From June 11 to July 23, 2011, Painters for a Purpose featured an exhibit at the Arnold Arboretum in support of the Elizabeth Stone House. The exhibit raised over $2,500!
