Advocacy, Information and Referrals
Every woman who comes to live at the Elizabeth Stone House is assigned a staff advocate when she arrives, and all community women who participate in our programs are eligible for advocacy services. The advocates help women navigate their way through bureaucratic mazes, and they advocate on behalf of the women when needed, attending meetings at schools, in court, or other agencies and organizations. They provide information and assistance as women look for housing, educational programs, or jobs; and they are crucial in identifying and providing referrals to outside medical, legal, and financial services. Our staff guidance approach emphasizes self-evaluation, setting goals, and working toward them.
