The Elizabeth Stone House Domestic Violence Program provides emergency housing for up to three months for victims of domestic abuse and their children. The Domestic Violence Program provides a safe environment for individuals and children while they look for more long-term, safe, affordable housing. Support groups, bi-weekly house meetings, safety planning, and advocacy for both parent and child help families to break the cycle of violence, regain control of their lives and heal from trauma.
Residents in the shelter have access to all services described in the Help for You and Help for Your Family sections of this website. In addition, the Elizabeth Stone House provides other services and material goods that help promote security and safety or help individuals accomplish their goals. For example, when someone arrives at Stone House they may have very limited possessions and cash. We make sure that each individual has basic material goods (sheets, kitchen and bathroom supplies, etc.), but most importantly, we help remove obstacles to self improvement, such as lack of transportation and child care. We fund both when necessary so that these individuals can go to work, take classes (GED, college courses, or vocational classes), look for permanent housing, or attend meetings relevant to meeting their goals (Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous, meetings with teachers, court sessions, etc.).
