Advocacy and Referrals
All residents are assigned an advocate when they move into our facilities, and community participants in our programs are eligible for advocacy services if they need them. Our advocates meet regularly with each individual and family to create a service plan. This plan may include working on school issues, referring families to our in-house trauma support groups, advising mothers whose children are involved with the Department of Children and Families, and encouraging women to learn healthy, non-violent ways of parenting. Our older children are assigned their own advocate who helps them reach weekly goals and resolve disputes with their mother or siblings. Mothers have their own advocates who offer assistance with children’s issues that range from finding free summer camps to learning the legal protections afforded homeless children in the public school system.
