Support Services for the Community and Elizabeth Stone House Residents
The Elizabeth Stone House offers a wide range of services to families in our community as well as to adults and children who live in our facilities. We have a team of advocates who work with adults one-on-one to define goals and work toward them. All residents are assigned an advocate when they move in to our facilities, and all community members who participate in our programs are eligible for advocacy services if they need them. Our facilitated support groups help individuals overcome isolation and learn to rely on their peers, while providing substantive information that is useful in daily life. Our classes teach adults personal, financial and parenting skills. Our transportation and child care subsidies make it possible for our adult residents to attend school or go to work.
The Elizabeth Stone House is committed to doing more than simply providing a safe space for adults and children in need. If for example, an individual comes to us fleeing a batterer, it isn't enough for us to provide him/her with emergency shelter. We have to help that person regain their sense of self, support them in their efforts to remain sober if they struggle with substance abuse, provide help with their children, and guide them in straightening out finances. Their difficulties are related to one another, and one problem cannot be resolved without addressing them all. Additionally, the Stone House has an extensive network of professionals to whom we refer people who need services that are not available at our facilities.
