Family Finances
Our family finances programming helps participants gain important skills needed to take control of their personal and family money matters. This program consists of three courses:
- Personal Economic Planning is required of every resident and offered at our building as well as off-site for community members and residents of other shelter and housing programs. This course teaches basic personal financial skills, including budgeting, developing a family financial plan, managing cash, using checking accounts, and saving. For our residents, Personal Economic Planning is supplemented with our mandatory savings program, in which every woman determines an amount to save each week or month.
- Learn to Earn teaches participants how to identify appropriate job openings, how to apply for a job, how to schedule and conduct an interview, and how to dress and comport oneself on the job. The program consists of workshops scheduled once a week for five weeks and a fourteen week internship. During the internship, participants work four days a week, and gather on the fifth day for discussions and support on workplace issues.
